The Beaver Creek Rodeo is the can’t-miss event of summer at Beaver Creek. Every Thursday is packed full of family-friendly western-themed fun, so make the most of it with the Beaver Creek Rodeo’s Family Top 10 Can’t-Miss Experiences.
As if you needed an excuse, here is your chance to go full cowboy. Whether you’re pulling out your grandpa’s old Stetson or buying your kid their first pair of cowboy boots at the Gold Dust Rodeo Festival (see number 7), join in on all the western fun by dressing the part.
It’s a Beaver Creek event, so you know the food is going to be incredible. Your kids will love all the classic Rodeo staples while you’ll appreciate the higher end offerings from local vendors. Favorites include Maya’s tortas and platters and Vail’s famous Wildwood Smokehouse brings in their smoker. If you want to get really authentic, Land Shark Catering has a selection of wild game offerings.
Sure, this one’s only for the parents, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be on the Family Top 10 List. From champagne and margaritas, to wine, beer and local spirits, enjoy your Rodeo experience to the fullest with a wide range of drink offerings.
New this year! The Gold Dust Rodeo Festival is the official Rodeo pre-party in the heart of Beaver Creek Village. This celebration of Colorado’s western identity includes vendors, exhibits, music and family-friendly activities. Enjoy an afternoon of fun in Beaver Creek Village from 2:30 – 4:30 then join other spectators in the shuttles down to the main event at the Rodeo Grounds in Avon.
While little ones will love the pony rides and a (gentle) mechanical bull at the Rodeo grounds, if they’re the type to want to really get in on the action, then these interactive kids events are made for them. A word to the wise – get there early to secure your child’s spot, these events do fill up.
For the Calf Scramble, sign your 5-12 year-old up for this fun, complimentary event. 100 kids will enter the arena and chase down a group of friendly calves. The first five buckaroos to pull a ribbon from the calves’ tails win a prize!
Little ones 3 and older and less than 50 pounds can take part in that much-loved Rodeo tradition: Mutton Bustin’. The cutest event of the Rodeo is all about hanging on tight to a wild-n-wooly sheep. Whichever cowgirl or cowboy hangs on the longest wins a prize.
10-17 year-olds can take part in the hilarious and complimentary BULLoon Stampede. Ten teens are fitted with a helmet and horns and then set loose on a balloon obstacle course in the center of the Beaver Creek Rodeo Arena to use their horns to pop as many balloons as possible before the clock runs out. Whoever pops the most balloons wins a prize.
